LOS ANGELES - Twelve finalists have been chosen to compete for the chance to perform with “SexyBack” singer Justin Timberlake at the Grammy Awards.
The finalists in the “My Grammy Moment” contest for unsigned artists range in age from 18 to 30. The 10 women and two men are from California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and New York, the Recording Academy said Tuesday.
“We received an overwhelming number of video submissions for ‘My Grammy Moment’ and the top 12 finalists selected reflect a diverse group of talented individuals from across the country,” Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said in a statement.
Fans are invited to vote for their favorites online at Yahoo! Music.
The top five finalists will be announced Jan. 17. The top three finalists will be announced during Super Bowl weekend, and each will go on to rehearse with Timberlake in Los Angeles, the Recording Academy said.
Online and text message votes during the 49th annual Grammy Awards, which will be telecast by CBS on Feb. 11 from the Staples Center, will determine the contest’s winner.
The winner will be announced live on the show before his or her performance with Timberlake.
