LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Two students were wounded by gunfire in a high school parking lot Tuesday morning, and police were searching a man seen driving from the area.

The injured teens’ wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, authorities said.

“It appears to be a road rage incident,” police Officer Jose Montoya said of the shooting, reported just before 6:30 a.m. at Western High School. “It’s not school-related or gang-related.”

Montoya said one of the wounded students had been in a vehicle that nearly collided with a Ford Mustang at a convenience store a few blocks from the school. He said the Mustang’s driver followed that vehicle to the school parking lot and fired at least five shots before driving away.

The two wounded teens were taken to University Medical Center. A male student who had been in the car was hit in the ankle, and a female student was wounded in the abdomen as she walked through the parking lot.

Students arriving for classes Tuesday found the parking lot blocked off, but Clark County School District officials said classes were not canceled. The campus has an enrollment of 2,423 students.
