PONTIAC, Mich. - A former banker convicted of murdering his wife by pushing her from the roof of a boathouse after she asked for a divorce has been ordered to pay their sons $10 million.
Lawyers for the boys, ages 10 and 13, sued Mark Unger after his June conviction. Unger didn’t contest the lawsuit and was ordered to pay the money into a fund set up for the couple’s children.
Unger, 45, was sentenced to a mandatory life term in the 2003 slaying of Florence Unger, 37. Prosecutors said he pushed her from a rooftop deck at a resort in 2003, and she 12 feet to a concrete apron. Her body was found the next morning in a lake.
The $10 million figure was based on Florence Unger’s projected lifetime earnings as a bank loan officer and the personal loss to her survivors.
Lawyers for the sons still plan to seek $250,000 in life insurance, Unger’s mortgaged and vacant home in suburban Detroit and about $80,000 in property that had belonged to the couple.
