Chasing your dream job
Advice for finding career nirvana

It took Allen Sheffield 10 years, but he finally figured out how to balance his career at an accounting firm with his passion for running a youth ministry. Here is his advice:

— Don’t be afraid to come up with something totally different.
— Figure out what will make your heart leap for joy, that you have the skill set to do, and then figure out how do you plan and carve out the hours. What are the requirements to achieve that?
— ‘“I got a lot of 'What in the heck are you doing?' when I made my decision, so be prepared to take the criticism and count the cost,” he says. But if this is a dream of yours, something that excites you totally on the inside, find a way to redefine occupations and careers, so both things can be achieved. This road isn’t traveled on too much because so many people are tied down to security of a job.
— It’s time to retool the way America thinks. Craft something that’s a win-win for both the company and yourself, and then be willing to make sacrifices.
