In a recent story where a mother claims she was kicked off plane for nursing her baby, we asked readers to share their opinions whether the airline was justified in removing the woman from the flight. Needless to say, this story has caused a stir. Below are just a few of thousands of reader's responses.
She absolutely should NOT have been kicked off the plane
My god people what is wrong with this country anyway? How do you think Eve fed her kids, she didn't walk down to the local AM/PM to get some formula. It's natural and its what our breasts were made for. It is this country's unhealthy, weird obsession with the naked body or the breast that makes me gag! ... Read the full entry
My wife is on the phone right now canceling our reservations with Delta
This is an outrageous example of abuse by an employee of an airline. If I was the passenger, I would go all the way to the Supreme Court. I will NEVER FLY DELTA AGAIN until they apologize to this couple and make restitution for doing what is natural, normal and recommended by every doctor in the world. Shame on you Delta. I'm sorry to say I won't be flying them in the future — or at least my wife, who always has breast fed our children on planes — won't be. ... Read the full entry
I am a woman writing this, but I say what they did was right
If the attendant had to offer her a blanket, she was obviously showing things that others did not want to observe. Had she taken the blanket then it would be another issue. ... Read the full entry
Just another of Delta's many faux pas
This woman and every woman has the absolute right to feed her child. What the airline did was inexcusable. The flight attendant ought to be ashamed and be counseled. This lady did absolutely nothing untoward. Why should a baby have to be covered in a blanket anyway? ... Read the full entry
I have no problem with breast feeding
It does not offend me at all. I think this incident might have been more of a safety issue. After 9/11, flight attendants are more concerned with safety and if any passenger makes them feel uncomfortable or a passenger seems to not want to comply with the flight attendant's request, often they will be asked to leave the plane if it has not left the gate. Maybe that flight attendant felt threatened by the woman or felt she could cause trouble later in the flight.
A flight at 30,000 feet is not the best place to protest anyone's rights for anything. My question is why would she not just use the blanket as requested? Did she want to protest the issue or make a scene or make a statement for her right to breast-feed? ... Read the full entry
The mother in this case
(If we have the facts correct) had the right to breast-feed her child but the other passengers on the plane also have rights. It is very offensive to some people to have to witness this procedure. The flight attendant offered the mother a blanket to drape over herself while feeding her child which in my opinion was handled with respect and courtesy. ... Read the full entry
We all have genitals, too
Should we bare them in public? We all have anuses, but it's rude to shove them in other people's faces. This woman wasn't kicked off for breast-feeding her baby. She was offered a blanket so she could continue doing that discreetly. ... Read the full entry
What is the problem with flight attendants?
I keep hearing stories like this. Why are airlines allowed to get away with this? Due to security now, moms have to drink their breast milk if they pump and put it in a bottle, and then if they try and breast-feed directly they get kicked off planes. Who cares if a bit of breast is showing? She's feeding the baby not doing a strip tease. I think people know the difference. ... Read the full entry
Some conspiracy theories
The woman had a prior plan to sue Delta for this. Otherwise, why would she have 22-month-old nursing and refuse a blanket?
The woman was a representative of US Airways. The cancelations provoked by this incident will force the Delta management to agree to US Airways terms of the merger.
A group of lawyers hired this woman to perform this act ... Read the full entry
