'Tis the season — for boot lovers, that is! There are plenty of fashionable, new styles and accents, from short to slouchy to touches of lace, straps and buckles. We’ll walk you through all the latest boot trends and tell you how they'll work with your personal style in the latest edition of The Trend Report!
Bootie call
Only interested in buying one new pair of boots this season? Go for the short little bootie! If you have classic taste, a sleek leather pair without adornment is a perfect choice. If you're a romantic, Victorian-inspired lace-up booties are your look, and if you've got sporty style, you'll love suede booties finished with a faux fur top.
Trend tip: This trendy little number is the perfect partner to all of fall's pants or essential layers, if that’s the trend you want to tap into. If so, pair short boots with leggings or tights for a long, lean look. Just make sure your booties fit well around the ankles for the sleekest silhouette.
Straps and wraps
Some of fall's best-looking boots are decked out to the nines with straps, wraps and buckles. If you love cowboy or motorcycle-inspired boots, this is your wardrobe update. These boots work best with jeans and casual clothing, but you don't have to stop there! They'll do double duty for you if you want an edgy, trendy look. If that’s the case, pair these boots with a short skirt or a dress and tights.
Trend tip: Do remember that a great pair of cowboy or motorcycle boots are wear-it-forever classics, while this season's variations on the style are great-looking for now but will go out of style.
Do slouch!
Your mother always told you not to slouch, but in this case it’s OK to make an exception — slouchy boots are hot to trot for fall! They give a relaxed attitude to sweater dressing or jeans and cords, especially when styled in soft, supple suede. Keep things on the casual side with a less structured handbag such as a hobo style — and you'll be accessorized to the max.
Trend tip: If you're not comfortable in high heels, then slouchy boots are for you. They look great with low or even flat heels.
To the laces
Romantic, Victorian-inspired lace-up boots seem to always come back in style. If you love them, move them to your “must-have” list. This season, you'll find lots of lace-ups — from ankle booties to at-the-knee fashion statements — and you'll also find that heel heights range from low to high. For the trendiest look, go for a special pair of boots embellished with embroidery or styled in velvet.
Trend tip: Many lace-up boots have side zipper openings or permanently laced laces, which prevents that unlaced fashion mishap!
Winter warmers
Let’s not forget about the practical side of boots. For those of us living in cold climates, boots help keep our feet warm and protect our “tootsies” from the elements! But you don't have to give up style points. Look for rugged leathers or suedes or waterproof materials that are styled just like your favorite pair of flat boots ... and you get extra credit if you find a pair lined with snuggly, warm shearling!
Trend tip: Slushy, snowy or icy weather is not the time to wear high-heeled boots. Pick up a pair of great, all-weather boots, then wear them year after year — and stay safe!
