NEW YORK - Maybe it was the rain that got everyone a little down, but celebrities attending New York Fashion Week on Thursday seemed to hit on a common theme: Beauty takes work.
Some of their thoughts:
Moments in mothering
Any working mother will tell you that mornings are tough. But being a working mother who is expected to look glamorous can have its own issues, Kyra Sedgwick said Thursday at the J. Mendel show, where designer Gilles Mendel presented his collection for spring 2007.
“I am only attending this show because I wanted to be supportive and here; he made me a beautiful dress for the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards,” said Sedgwick, star of TNT’s “The Closer.”

“I wake up early with the kids now, but to look good and wake up early are two totally different things,” said Sedgwick, who is married to Kevin Bacon. The couple have two children.
Sedgwick begins filming “The Game Plan” with The Rock next week in Boston, she said.
“It’s going to be fun,” she said. “It’s about a football player whose little girl comes back into his life. I am his sports agent. And I get to wear great clothes, so I am very excited.”
Melania Knauss Trump, wife of Donald Trump, seconded the notion that motherhood isn’t always easy. The couple have a 5-month-old son, Barron.
“Barron needs mommy and Donald needs a wife,” she said. “Donald is in the office during the day so I spend a lot of time with Barron then. When [Donald] comes home, we spend all of our time together.”
Tight spots
At the Badgley Mischka show, Michelle Trachtenberg, best known as Dawn on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” had her own worries about looking good.
Wearing a new Badgley Mischka corset top and a matching skirt that was a bit snug, the 20-year-old actress fretted that sitting down could be a little difficult. But “beauty is pain,” she proclaimed, and happily chatted about her upcoming movie.
“I’m about to be very busy promoting ‘Black Christmas,’ which is my horror movie that will be coming out Christmas Day,” she said. “It’s about a bunch of sorority girls running around and getting killed in a house. Good times.”
Model Petra Nemcova, who was hanging out backstage, said catwalk models work hard at looking good, and one pro can spot what another is concerned about.
“Like a girl who has a very tight skirt on, I know how hard it is to walk in it,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kathy Griffin, star of Bravo’s “My Life on the D-List,” had her own bout of Fashion Week anxiety.
She feared running into Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. “I have called her all these four-letter words on my show. If I see her, she won’t know who I am. But I already ran away from (Vogue Editor-at-Large) Andre Leon Talley when I saw him.”
