Sesame Street turning 40 Nov. 8: Sesame Street marks its 40th anniversary on Tuesday on PBS. Msnbc's Alex Witt talks with In Touch Weekly's Tom O'Neil about the landmark TV show for children. |
Lukas Rossi was named lead singer of the group Supernova after winning the 11-week competition "Rock Star: Supernova."
The other members of Supernova are Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, Gilby Clarke, formerly of Guns and Roses, and Jason Newsted, formerly of Metallica.
"Lukas, your look, your energy, your vocals, the way you move ... everything has been really amazing for us,” said Lee. "...You're our boy. Welcome."
Rossi has written and produced albums for his former band, Cleavage, and has also performed with other groups. Cleavage won the Best Canadian Unsigned Band award at Canada's largest music festival, NXNE, in 2000. Rossi has also done voice-overs for commercials and cartoons.
Toronto resident Rossi, 29, beat out 14 other contestants for the title. South African-born Dilana Robichaux, 33, was runner-up. Supernova's Clarke offered to help Robichaux write and produce her own album.
There is some controversy over the band's name. A California punk band has gone by the name Supernova since 1989 and is contesting the newer band's use of the name. They sued CBS and producer Mark Burnett in June, claiming copyright infringement.
It was the second season of the CBS reality show. In the show's first season, Canadian J.D. Fortune won the chance to front Australian band INXS, and is currently touring with the group.
Although both "Rock Star" winners are Canadian, "Rock Star" is an unusual American reality show in that it allows Canadians to compete. For various and controversial reasons, many U.S. shows do not allow non-Americans to apply.
