No need to streamline your life (or your handbag) this fall ... some of the trendiest styles are supersized to gigantic proportions! Whether you want an investment piece to upgrade your look or simply want the lowdown on what's cheap and chic, we‘ve “bagged” all the best options for you right here in the latest edition of The Trend Report.

Big, bigger, biggest

Grab one of Fall’s enormous handbags — but careful because you may need to put your chiropractor on speed dial. We're talking big! If you tote “your life” around with you every day (and who doesn't?), this season’s oversized styles will be a welcome addition to your wardrobe. The most versatile options are in soft leather (or suede) in a tote-like shape, with plenty of outer pockets for easy access to cell phones, keys and other essentials.

Trend tip: A bag this size that is styled in leather or suede can get pretty pricey. You'll find the same look for less in other materials such as trendy wool flannel or even a chunky knitted wool.

Frame job

If the slouchy, oversized look is not for you, then another stylish option is a large “framed” handbag with a more structured shape. These vintage-inspired bags often sport sophisticated details such as buckles and metal trims, which give them a more polished look. No need to go plain Jane — look for trendy patchwork patterns or combinations of textures and trim like we found in this $34 beauty from Isaac Mizrahi at Target.

Trend tip: There are lots of very fashionable, oversized top-handled bags out there and they look great. We advise, however, that you make sure your handbag can also be carried on your shoulder because these babies can get really heavy!

Satchel rage
Our love affair with the satchel handbag shape just goes on and on. It's the “it” shape you've seen worn by A-list celebs around the globe and the trend has finally filtered down to more affordable options for the rest of us. This very ladylike style works hand in hand with all of fall’s feminine fashions, so it's a great choice for your all-around handbag. Look for very rich and luxe combinations of colors and textures to pump up its fashion appeal.

Trend tip: You'll find wonderful versions of the satchel at very reasonable prices from brands such as Bebe, Guess, Maxx, Echo and Hype.

omething wild

If you prefer to take a walk on the wild side you’ll find plenty of handbags to please you this fall. We're loving the influence of rock and roll and motorcycle chic, which have combined to create some pretty hot and tempting accessories! Look for rugged leathers (especially in black) decorated with whips, chains and studs. You'll often find a bit of wild animal print (such as leopard or zebra) thrown in as well just to spice things up. Trendy!

Trend tip: If you do go for a little something wild, make sure that you feel comfortable wearing it with many outfits. You don’t want to see it sitting in the closet waiting for a special day (or night) out on the town. It's A-OK to mix trends — the chain-detailed handbag here looks great with schoolgirl plaids!

The quilted picker-upper

Yes, those ‘80s-style quilted handbags are back! The trendiest versions are supersized to luggage proportions, but if that look is a bit extreme for you, you’ll be happy to learn that the quilted clutch with its tuck-in chain shoulder strap is also one of the hottest looks around. If you‘d like a more modern twist, opt for a tote or a compact wristlet instead. And do look for color — hot brights, pastels and even metallic gold, silver or bronze will be coming on strong.

Trend tip: The true trendista will immediately hit the attic or the local vintage store to grab this retro look for a song ... before the rest of the world catches on.
