WASHINGTON - Police in the nation’s capital have arrested five people in a series of armed robberies and sexual assaults this summer on the National Mall.
The five males range in age from 16 to 22, and they will all be charged as adults for a series of offenses.
Police say they believe these are all the people who took part in the robberies on the Mall between May and July. The charges cover offenses that include the rape of a 17-year-old girl in May.
Investigators say the arrests were made separately over the past two weeks. All of the suspects are from Washington.
Authorities say they took the subway from their neighborhoods to the National Mall to attack people.
