We're having a heat wave! So keep your cool by staying indoors and catching up on the latest red-hot, summer lifestyle trends. Get ready for movie rental downloads, online socials, celeb style and more ... it's all right here in the latest edition of The Trend Report.

Celeb style
The “Material Girl” tries her hand at fashion this month. Madonna has partnered with fast-fashion retailer H&M to create a signature track suit, which she is wearing on her world tour ... and it's coming to an H&M near you this month! The track suit comes in black, white and purple and consists of a narrow, yoked top and wide-legged pants. You can also shop from her 150-person tour crew's favorite picks — they'll all be featured in an upcoming advertising campaign. Hot!

Trend tip: Get to know the stylists behind the stars because their stars are on the rise. Rachel Zoe puts together Lindsay and Nicole, and now she has a line of handbags on the way (in partnership with Judith Leiber). Andrea Lieberman is the muse behind Gwen Stefani, and she also designs her own line of luxe jewelry for Mouawad. Stay tuned for more!

Social hour
Get ready to network, Internet-style (if you don't already). Community sites like MySpace, Flickr and Facebook (for college students) are the red-hot way to meet new people, share stories and photos and make connections. But if you're above a certain age, you may be leery of all this “social networking.” No more! Jeff Taylor (the founder of Monster.com) has just launched Eons.com, which caters to the 50+ demographic — about time, right? It's filled with interactive features, news, a longevity calculator — and people. Get ready to meet and greet — your public is waiting.

Trend tip: If you'd rather meet and greet f2f (that's “face to face” in Internet speak), then check out Meetup.com. Over 2 million people participate in setting up local meetings catering to a gazillion passions, hobbies and lifestyles. From the New York Basenji Meetup to the Vancouver Walking Meetup, chances are you'll find a meeting to match your interests!

Beauty on the run

Who has time to primp and preen these days? Chances are you're on the run, and your beauty rituals need to be portable — no one wants to lug around all those products! Cosmetic companies have taken note and have developed a plethora of “to go” products. We love Cargo's Daily Gloss — a 30-day supply of lip gloss packaged in individual tear-away pouches — and their ColorCards, which are single-use eyeshadows in a range of colors. Check out your favorite brands to see if they're hip to the trend!

Trend tip: On hot days, we swear by our tiny (five-ounce) bottle of Evian Mineral Water Spray. Throw one in your bag and spritz to cool down, freshen your makeup application or re-hydrate summer-weary skin. If you stash it in the fridge overnight, it will be a chilled treat after your morning commute!

Movie night

Get ready for movie night whenever you want — day or night or on the go — because on Aug. 7, Apple CEO Steve Jobs will announce the debut of movie rentals through iTunes! Walt Disney, Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. have already signed on to offer content for this groundbreaking digital movie rental service. Your movie download will be coded with a date stamp that will restrict playback to a limited period of time. So fire up the microwave popcorn, charge up your iPod and get ready to beat the heat, 21st century-style.

Trend tip: Don't have an iPod yet? If Microsoft has anything to say about it, you'll choose to sport a Zune instead. This is the code name for their new, soon-to-be-released digital media player, which will compete with iPod. The trendsetting device has lots of bells and whistles, including the ability to wirelessly transfer songs between Zune players.

Home sweet stylish home

You're all over Simply Shabby Chic and Michael Graves for Target, and when your budget allows you'll even spring for a Donna Karan shower curtain. Now get ready for fashion designer turned home furnishings designer Wenlan Chia! She's known for her fashion line of dresses and sweaters named Twinkle, which are collected by fashionistas near and far. Her brilliant idea was to use the same design inspiration, prints and patterns found in her collection to create ultra-stylish accessories for your home — from bedding to pillows and rugs.

Trend tip: Stylish home accessories and furniture are a big trend. If you haven't shopped Pier 1, The Bombay Company or even Home Depot lately, you're in for a fashionable surprise!
