Dec. 18: Twelve years after his blockbuster, Titanic, hit movie theaters, will James Cameron’s Avatar have similar audience appeal? NBC’s George Lewis reports.

“NYPD Blue: Season 4” — Dennis Franz and Jimmy Smits bust more bad guys in the gritty cop drama, whose 22 episodes from the fourth year come in a four-disc set. Cast and crew offer commentary on three episodes. DVD set, $39.98. (20th Century Fox)

“The Mary Tyler Moore Show: The Complete Fourth Season” — The TV newsroom sitcom featuring Moore, Edward Asner and Valerie Harper returns in a three-disc set packing year four’s 24 episodes. DVD set, $29.98. (20th Century Fox)

“The King of Queens,” “NewsRadio,” “Married ... With Children” — Three sitcoms are back in a batch of three-disc sets containing all 25 episodes from year five of Kevin James’ “The King of Queens,” the 22 episodes from season four of Dave Foley and Maura Tierney’s “NewsRadio,” and the 25 episodes from the fifth season of Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal’s “Married ... With Children.” DVD sets, $39.95 each. (Sony)

Other new releases:

“Charlie Chan: Volume One” — Warner Oland stars as the wily detective in four 1930s films debuting on DVD: “Charlie Chan in London,” “Charlie Chan in Paris,” “Charlie Chan in Egypt” and “Charlie Chan in Shanghai.” The four-disc set also includes “Eran Trece,” the Spanish-language version of Oland’s first film in the series, “Charlie Chan Carries On,” using the same sets but a different cast (no prints of Oland’s “Charlie Chan Carries On” survived). DVD set, $59.98. (20th Century Fox)

“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” — As Johnny Depp heads back to the high seas in this summer’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel, his 1993 tale about an oddball family comes to DVD in a new edition. The disc has interviews with Depp and co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Juliette Lewis, along with commentary by director Lasse Hallstrom and writer Peter Hedges, who adapted the screenplay from his novel. DVD, $19.99. (Paramount)
