When the sun gently begins to fry the earth and folks start wearing skimpier clothing, then much like the groundhog in February, the studly Hollywood star emerges to make people around the world pray for six more weeks of summer.

Access has put together a list of our favorite summer studs from movies, TV and sports. Which would you like to take to the beach, or maybe have accompany you for a picnic?

We've even thrown in a couple of surprises!

First off, we have Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman, who runs around “X-Men: The Last Stand” in an undershirt and claws trying to get his ladylove, Phoenix, back. Don't close your eyes during the film's final scenes, where Wolfie's tank is virtually ripped off his bod by her mutant powers. The leather pants, inexplicably, stay on.

In other hero news, we've got a new Superman just in time for summer. The dark and handsome Brandon Routh is one guy in tights and a cape you don't have to cross the street to avoid.

Everyone’s fave pirate will be back in July, and who knew that Johnny Depp would make such a tanned and toned summer stud? Normally, we would characterize Johnny as more of an autumn beefcake — the type who hangs out at an outdoor café on Paris' Left Bank with his legs stretched out across the sidewalk, so that you practically trip over them (he then offers to buy you a café au lait and you forget where you were headed…)

Access found a quite unexpected summer stud in former Vice President Al Gore, whose passion and commitment to the environment are on fine display in his film about the dangers of global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Let's not forget summer's movie funny men: Jack Black (“Nacho Libre”), Will Ferrell (“Talladega Nights”) and Vince Vaughn (“The Break-Up”), whose combined sense of humor heats up summer's box office to the ’nth degree.

Access is especially looking forward to seeing Samuel L. Jackson kick some slithery behind in the hysterically-premised “Snakes On A Plane.” One could even call the snakes studly, especially the one that slides down the oxygen tube. Now that's taking initiative!

Access found a different sort of summer stud in the plump star of “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.” The feisty feline, voiced by Bill Murray, has a certain fluffy squeezeabilty and devil-may-care attitude that the other men on our list can only dream of possessing!

On the small screen, it's raining men at HBO. With the dual premieres of “Entourage” — check out Kevin Dillon's portrayal of Johnny Drama for a guy whose insecure posing makes him all the more endearing; and “Deadwood” — with it's dusty, bloody, gun-toting, who cares if they never bathe, boys of the Old West (lead by uber-stud Timothy Olyphant) — you can have a quick cutie pie fix any Sunday night if you subscribe.

And on NBC's own “Windfall,” “90210” hunk Luke Perry is back in a rich way. And thank goodness — he doesn't look like he's aged a year!

Finally, for a little love in the afternoon, don't forget to take a peek at the boys of World Cup soccer. Swiss twins David and Philipp Degen and Posh's perfect hubby, David Beckham, take summer's proverbial ice cream cake, as they run and sweat and hit the ball all over your TV.
