Ellen DeGeneres named new ‘Idol’ judge Sept. 10: Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is joining “American Idol” as the show’s fourth judge, taking Paula Abdul’s place. TODAY’s Natalie Morales reports. |
"American Idol" has started paring down its 12 finalists, and Melissa "Whoops, I forgot the lyrics" McGhee was the first to get the boot. Lisa Tucker and Ace Young received the next-lowest vote totals. Deserving? Robbed? What do you think?
Here are some of your comments.
MELISSA DESERVED TO GO
“Melissa deserved to be voted off. She forgot the words to Stevie’s song. What do you expect? Bucky definitely needs to loose the goldie locks look. It is not an American Idol look! Chris is has what it takes and I think it will be a close call between him and Mandisa.” --Leslie
“Yes, Melissa deserved to be voted off the show. There are several that need to be weeded out...it was just her turn after messing up her song lyrics. I liked this week’s episodes. I enjoy them more when they move faster and not filled with things to just take up time. I really like Elliot. But the winner should be Chris. The rest are not even close to being in Chris’s league.” --Beth
“It was a far gone conclusion that Melissa would be voted of this week. She was next to the lowest last week and didn’t have the time to build a fan base.” --Anonymous
MELISSA FAN
“I liked Melissa, I think that Simon has too much of an influence on the public.” --Shelly
KEVIN IS TERRIBLE
“Kevin so shouldn’t even be in this competition. He is the worst singer by far that I’ve ever seen in the top 12. I don’t know how he is still on this show....pity maybe?” --Shannon
SHORTER SHOWS ARE GOOD
“I like the results shows to be shorter, rather than have Ryan build the suspense for a ridiculously long time. I do think Melissa deserved to be voted off. I liked her but forgetting the lyrics at this point was a crucial mistake. A professional singer has to be able to cope with many psychological pressures, something that Melissa doesn’t seem ready to handle. My favorite has to be Taylor. For his charisma, originality and talent. I find most of the finalists incredibly likeable this season and I am getting far more emotionally attached than I thought I would.” --Laura
VOTE OR DON’T COMPLAIN
“It’s easy for people to start complaining about the show now and say they won’t watch anymore because little Kevin the horrible singer didn’t get voted off, but they are the same people who DON’T VOTE!! So, they can’t complain. If you like a singer, then vote for them. The teens and tweens have all the time in the world to be on their cell phones and text in or call in, but for the rest of us, we like to watch the show and then it’s on to the next show. People really need to vote.” --Mary
NO WONDER
“For anyone to sing a Stevie Wonder melody and do it even halfway decently is a minor miracle. I have never been particularly enchanted with Wonder’s singing because it seems to have little rhythm or catchiness. How he came to be a legend is very difficult to for me to understand. I consider it very unfair that that the contestants had to sing one of his songs when it is clear they were not suitable for all of the contestants’ personal talents.” --Chuck
LOVE WONDER
“I love that Stevie’s music was used! It really shows who’s got it. Melissa did deserve to go home. This is the big show, you have to be prepared and KNOW YOUR LYRICS! I believe Bucky and Kevin are next to go... no real showmanship. I think Chris has pretty much got the WIN locked down right now, but anything can happen...” --Lindsay
SHOW ON TOO LATE
“Hated it coming on at 9:00PM. HELLO! People have to get up early to go to work. I felt Melissas days were numbered.I don’t think Kevin is idol material and look for him to go soon.I think Kellie and Chris will go far. They have a wholesome personality that helps people indentify with their own dreams. Kellie has good stage presence and can keep an audiences attention” --Wanda
