Crowe’s baby can be honorary French citizen

PARIS - Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe and his wife are reportedly expecting their second child — and the mayor of a small French town wants to make the baby an honorary citizen.

The mayor of Bonnieux, a hilltop village in southern France where Crowe shot parts of “A Good Year” last fall, was delighted to hear reports that the baby was conceived in France.

“I think that ... the very pleasant and warm atmosphere in the south of France might have helped give them the necessary inspiration,” Mayor Roger Fenelon said Thursday.

The Crowe family is welcome in Bonnieux anytime, Fenelon said in a telephone interview.

“It would give us great pleasure if one day, during a trip to France, they stop by Bonnieux so we can make their baby an honorary citizen,” he said.

Crowe, who won an Oscar for his role in 2000’s “Gladiator,” made a red-carpet announcement at the Golden Globe Awards that he and Danielle Spencer are expecting their second child, Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper reported Wednesday.

“She’s due in July, so it’s a French conception,” he told the TV cameras.

Crowe, 41, and Spencer, 34, have a 2-year-old son, Charles Spencer Crowe.
