Projects Team editor Mike Brunker has worked for MSNBC.com since August 1996.
Before assuming his current duties leading the Web site's team devoted to original and investigative journalism in March 2006, Brunker served as West Coast news editor, overseeing production of the site’s cover and news sections.
Prior to that, he spent 8 1/2 years at MSNBC.com as a writer-editor specializing in Internet issues. He produced MSNBC's widely recognized "Internet Underground" and "Internet Roulette" sections, focusing on online crime and online gambling, respectively. With colleague Bob Sullivan, he was the recipient of the 2002 Sigma Delta Chi national public service award for online reporting for a series on Internet auction fraud.
Brunker also has covered horse racing's Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup races since 1996 for the Web site.
Before joining MSNBC, Brunker worked for 15 years at newspapers in the San Francisco Bay Area, the last 11 of them at the San Francisco Examiner. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from San Francisco State University.
