LaFAYETTE, Ga. — No survivors were found on board a military jet that crashed in northwest Georgia, the Air Force confirmed Thursday.

The wreckage was found late Wednesday in a mountain area. Family members were told a coroner was sent to the scene.

The twin-engine Navy plane disappeared Tuesday morning shortly after taking off from Chattanooga, Tennessee, on a training flight to Pensacola, Florida.

Those on board are identified as a Navy instructor, a civilian contract pilot and two student aviators, one from the Navy and one from the Air Force.

The discovery came after rescue crews searched a swath of Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama for more than 24 hours.

The Navy T-39 Sabreliner took off Tuesday morning from Chattanooga, Tenn., on a practice bombing mission. It failed to arrive as scheduled in the afternoon at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida.

Officials said there was no distress call before the plane vanished.
