GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - "Survivor: Guatemala" contestant and retired pro football quarterback Gary Hogeboom says he had some good luck and some bad during his 30 days in the jungle of Central America.

The Central Michigan University graduate and real estate developer was the 12th person voted out of the game during episode 11, which CBS broadcast Thanksgiving Day.

He said a misunderstanding with contestant Jamie Newton during the ninth episode caused his ouster.

"I went up to Jamie and said I was voting with those guys, but he misunderstood me, and he went back to the rest of the tribe and said I was voting against them," he told the Grand Haven Tribune.

"Really, there is nothing I would have done different," Hogeboom said. "Obviously, I wanted to go further, but I did everything I could."

The show was taped during a 41-day stretch. On Dec. 11, Hogeboom and the other 17 contestants will take part in the live season finale in New York City when the winner will be announced.

Since returning from Guatemala, Hogeboom says he has been getting back to everyday life, spending time with his family and attending to business.
