SAN JOSE, Calif. - A teenager was arrested this week for allegedly sending a death threat by text message to a girl's cell phone.

The 16-year-old boy was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of making terrorist threats, said San Jose Police Department spokesman Enrique Garcia.

The 13-year-old girl, a student at Orchard Elementary School in San Jose, told school authorities and police that the boy sent her a text message that he was going to shoot her, her friends and anyone else who got in the way, Garcia said.

Police questioned the boy, a student at Santa Teresa High School, and took him into custody.

"Ever since Columbine, these cases have been taken very seriously," Garcia said. "We've seen way too many incidents where the people follow through on this."

Garcia said the girl did not know the boy but that he knew some of her friends.
