Getting tailor-made clothes and accessories used to be a luxury item few could afford, but today just about anyone can do it and it's only a click away. Jacqui Stafford of Shape magazine presents the hottest new trends in customization.

Get a great shirt that actually fits!
While men's shirts have been sold in personalized sizes based on arm length and neck measurement for decades, women have had to choose from arbitrary sizing. Rebecca & Drew wanted to make a “power shirt” for women that actually fits their body measurements, eliminating pulling at the chest, button popping, and boxy sides and back. A customer simply goes to the site, chooses the shirt that she is interested in purchasing and orders based on her bra size and height. There’s a sizing chart on the site for those who are interested in finding out more about where to measure to get exactly the right fit. Shirts are available in slim fit or relaxed fit and come in 34 different sizing options, and in 20 fabrics and 12 styles. Available at www.rebeccaanddrew.com, www.neimanmarcus.com and www.saks.com.

Customize ties, bowties and scarves
Tiecrafters.com will customize any style, shape, length and width of men’s ties, bowties, and scarves. They do custom logos, and great one-of-a-kind, hand-painted designs. You can choose from more than 250 fabrics. Clientele include former U.S. Presidents and Fortune 200 company presidents. Costs $70-250 for an elaborate design and fabric; 2-3 weeks to customize, but rush delivery is possible; www.tiecrafters.com.

Update your jewelry
There’s no better place to start than in your own jewelry box! Dig out those old baubles rattling around in your closet shoeboxes and breathe some life back into them with a jewelry makeover. If you’ve been hoarding unflattering strands of stones from the ‘70s that hang at your waist or cherishing a brooch that belonged to a great aunt, designers at femmegems.com can reinvent your buried treasures in a snap. By suggesting more flattering length changes, adding or removing certain “colors,” mixing in a gorgeous pendant, replacing the peeling “faux” stones with fresh sparkly new ones, or even creating matching earrings, you can enjoy your old jewels all over again as if they were brand new. Send them anything you want to makeover. Re-stringing starts at $20, and then you can mix in any components to suit any budget; 2 weeks for delivery; www.femmegems.com.

Be your own handbag designer
Annawilliam.com is an easy to navigate web site that will create custom handbags, allowing you to choose the bag style, fabric, handle and lining. They have over 150 fabrics and 20 bag styles to choose from and all the bags are hand-cut and tailored at the design studio. You can also send in your own fabric. Great for bridal showers or parties. $20-135; 3-4 weeks, shipping free for orders over $150. For any reason you don’t like it, you can return it within 30 days; www.annawilliam.com.

Show your style at your morning workout!
We wouldn’t be Shape Magazine if we didn’t have someone perfect for our active lifestyles! We’re still obsessed with the Nikeid.com web site where we love creating our own one-of-a kind sneakers by personalizing them with our choice of style, color, materials and breakthrough technologies. There are hundreds of colors to choose from, as well as select styles and unique materials, such as special leathers and synthetics that are not otherwise offered. The technologies include Shox, Zoom Air and 360 as well as many other performance and sport culture shoes. $95 for kids, $115 for men and women. The process on Nikeid.com takes anywhere from 10 minutes to hours! It depends on how creative (or indecisive) you are!
